Nicholas is an infectious disease scientist by training (MSc., DLSHTM., PhD), with more than 20 years’ professional experience in the pharmaceutical industry working on vaccines and immunotherapeutics. In his career, he has published numerous peer-reviewed scientific papers, reviews and professional articles.

As a writer on Imperial Rome, he brings the same attention to evidence, analysis and clear communication to narratives of ambition, authority, conflict and consequence. Nicholas has spent decades touring the major Roman historial sites across the UK and Europe. To bring the Roman world to life, he strives to visit the very places he writes about — even camping with wild dogs in Romania while tracing the footsteps of Trajan ! Nicholas’ research incorporates direction and input from renowned academics in the field.
